Can I Mount a Kayak Carrier or Bike Rack to the Thule Canyon XT Basket?

Question:

Had a question about the roof basket. I recently purchased and mounted a thule canyon xt roof basket and was curious if I could also utilize other Thule accessories for my carrying needs like a mtn bike mount or a kayak mounting system? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

While you can utilize other Thule accessories like the Thule Hull-A-Port Kayak Carrier # TH834 or the Thule UpRide Bike Rack # TH599000, you cannot mount those accessories onto the Thule Canyon XT # TH859XT itself. This is because the bars on the basket are too small to accommodate the clamp-on mounting brackets of these accessories. Also, Thule (or any other roof rack manufacturer) does not make any clamps that can allow you to use these accessories on the small bars.

With that being said, there are two options. First off, you can remove the Thule Canyon XT from the roof to mount the kayak carrier and/or bike rack. The second option is to calculate how much available crossbar space you have with the basket installed to use the accessories at the same time.

In order to calculate how much crossbar space you have, since all models of Thule Canyon XT are 40" wide, it truly depends on the length of your crossbars. I would be happy to assist you in finding out how much space you have if you respond with the length of your crossbars to this answer.
