Is it Normal for Dutton Lainson Strongarm Winch to Have Burning Smell/White Smoke First Use
Updated 06/16/2022 | Published 06/15/2022 >
Question:
Just purchased your winch DL25046 120volt to pull my boat into the boat house. Boat and outboard approx 1300-1400 lbs plus metal carriage another 200- 300lbs so total 1700lbs max plus incline. My question is when I lower the boat into the water the winch smells of burning brakes. Is this ok? If not how to prevent this happening as therevis only one speed to let out winch?

I checked with Dutton Lainson and for the Strongarm winches like the part # DL25046 it's actually normal to see white smoke when you use the winch for the first time as it's the oil film leftover from the assembly being burned off. I suspect this is what you are smelling and it's perfectly normal.
