When I need to replace the garnish for my shower skylight, what would be the best way for me to measure? Should I take the garnish off or should I measure the insides?

In order to make sure you get the correct ceiling garnish for your application, you're going to want to measure from outside edge to edge as well as the depth.
For instance, the Garnish for Fan-Tastic Vents Roof Vent # FVK2040-80 measures 16-1/4" from end to end, and has a depth of 4-1/2".
This ceiling garnish among the majority of garnish that we carry, is designed to fit into the standard 14-1/4" x 14-1/4" ceiling opening.
