Question:
Im installing a set of Yakima landing pad 8s on my 2005 Honda CR-V. Instructions say to use a non-water soluble lubricant of the screw threads. But with the vibration to which the mounts will be subjected, and the relatively light torque to which they are tightened, wouldnt a thread cement such as Loc-tite be more advisable?

I totally understand the concern! When it comes to manufacturer's guidelines, it is always recommended to go "by the book." This is because Yakima puts all of their parts like the Landing Pad 8 for Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers # Y00228 through strenuous physical testing. It is also important to note that not going by the recommendations may void any warranty on the roof rack.
With that being said, you are absolutely correct that Yakima recommends using a non-water soluble lubricant on the screws. If you need this type of lubricant, I recommend using the # EQ91-00-4250. This provides the water resistance that the instructions call for.
