Question:
what about the two sides that are straight, to keep the lock from turning. if you make a 5/8 round hole it will turn?

The two flat sides of the threaded portion of the Cam Lock part # CAM44323 are designed to prevent it from turning. If you were to drill a totally round hole this would turn unless it was tightened down a lot.
