Estimated Installation Time for a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

How much extra time do you think it will take if my jeep has the factory tow hook? trying to decide whether i can do it myself or not

It will not take much longer, a few minutes most likely, maybe longer if you have to spray some penetrating oil and let it soak a while to remove the tow loop. The estimated professional installation time for trailer hitch # C13182 is 10 minutes. For a do-it-yourselfer at home I estimate about an hour from start to finish. Ultimately it depends on your ability and if you have the proper tools.

If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If you need trailer wiring use # 118425. I have linked a video for the wiring as well.
