Question:
Can the Flexalite FLX 284 fan be used for towing applications? Does this item change the amount of weight that can be towed from the stock specification?

Expert Reply:
Yes, the Flex-a-lite Direct Fan Dual Electric Radiator Fan with Shroud # FLX284 can be used for towing applications on your 2004 Chevy Silverado with the 6.6L V8 diesel engine. Unfortunately, this fan (and all other fans) does not change the maximum weight capacity rating of your vehicle any higher than the stock setup. This is because the maximum weight rating is determined by structural/engineering factors outside of engine temp/horsepower factors. However, the # FLX284 has the ability to recover 27 horsepower and 34 ft-lb of torque, which increases your truck's ability to work harder when towing a load.
