Updated 03/01/2022 | Published 02/27/2022

Question:

I need to know everything I will need to get my Truck able to pull RV the whole Tow package and if I get the 7way plug in play kit that will activate my trailer brakes correct? When I hit brakes it will in gauge trailer brakes also or do I have to buy something else for trailer brakes? I understand if I want to control them I have to buy kit but they should automatically work off plug in kit correct?

In order to tow a travel trailer that has brakes, you'll need to equip your 2022 Nissan Frontier with a receiver hitch, a 7-way trailer wiring harness/trailer connector and a brake controller.

For a hitch, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite # 75282 you'd looked at. For a wiring harness/trailer connector, use # 118266 and a # PK12711U mounting bracket. For a ball mount, use # C45010 as well as # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball.

Finally, in order to actuate the travel trailer's brakes, you will need to install a brake controller. I really like a remote-mount controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty, part # RED24FR. The unit installs under the dash where's it's out of the way, and you'll adjust the trailer brakes using the control knob that can be mounted anywhere within the driver's reach. An unused switch knockout in the dash or center console is the perfect mounting location. A mounting bezel like # 331-TPSI-001 makes for a professional factory looking appearance.

You'll also need a # RED39FR wiring harness that connects the # RED24FR Tow-Pro Liberty to the connector under the dash. If you click the provided video link and fast forward to the 3:30 mark, you can see exactly where the connector is located.

I've also linked to installation videos for the hitch and the 7-way wiring harness and trailer connector, as well as to a video that explains how the Tow-Pro Liberty brake controller works.
