Question:

When the air brake pedal is applied in truck, should the brake booster in the RV trailer come on?

Expert Reply:

Yes, when you press your brake pedal for your air brakes on your truck it will tell your brake controller like the Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller # HA100400C to activate the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator # HBA-10 on your trailer. You will need to confirm that your trailer brake controller is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes like the Hayes unit is.

To test your actuator you can pull the emergency break away cable to ensure that the actuator activates and sends pressure to the trailer brakes.

@GaryB It should only take a couple of volts to get the actuator going since what tells the actuator how hard to apply the brakes is the number of volts from 0 to 12 with 12 being the full pressure. I would just put 12 volts on the blue wire as that would be easiest to get since a car battery would have that easily accessible.
