Question:
Hello I ordered a 2004 mercury mountaineer trailer hitch for my SUV but a deer destroyed my SUV before I was able to put it on. My new vehicle is a 1997 Ford explorer 4.0 xlt will this trailer hitch from my mercury fit on my explorer.

Expert Reply:
We do have a hitch that fits your 1997 Ford Explorer, though the Curt # C13550 will not, because the Explorer underwent a generation change in 2002, so even though that hitch fits later model year Explorers, it won't fit your '97. What you will need instead is a different hitch from Curt for your 1997 Explorer:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13540
The # 13540 is a complete no-drill install so you just bolt it right to your Explorer without issue.
