You do not need to disconnect your battery when you flat tow your 2013 Lincoln MKX. You will want to have your battery connected to run your supplemental brake system and brake lights. To keep your battery from dying on your trip you will want to use the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-156-25. This charge line will provide just 15 amps to avoid overcharging.
You are required by law to run a supplemental brake system when you are flat towing. I recommend the Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency, Portable Braking System item # BLU37TR. The Blue Ox Patriot will be able to run off of the vehicle's battery for 6-8 hours at a time but this would likely drain the battery when you go to start the vehicle. The charge line will prevent this.
Other parts you are going to need to flat tow your Lincoln are:
Base Plate Kit: Blue Ox Base Plate Kit item # BX2625
Tow Bar: Blue Ox Avail Tow Bar item # BX7420 (Safety Cables Included)
Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-152-98146-7
