Trailer Tire Recommendation to Replace 205/75D14 Boat Trailer Tires
Published 02/17/2022 >
Question:
Hello, I just purchased a boat with trailer. The trailers spec plate says it takes ST205/75D14C tires. What is the C on the end stand for?....and its my understanding that that ST205/75D14C is a Bias ply tire, and Id rather run radials....can I run ST205/75R14 on it instead?

Great questions!
The C is the load range so it's an indication of how much weight the tires can handle. Basically as long as the tires are rated for the same or more weight than your axle you'll be good to go. The D does stand for Bias and you definitely can run with Radials instead - it's just important that your tires are the same size, same load range, and either both Bias or both Radial. If any of those don't match then you're going to see uneven tread wear that could lead to a blowout.
For your application I recommend going with the Provider ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # TR20514 which meets your specs and also has a higher max speed rating of 81 mph. This tire has better tread siping which gives it better traction, especially when the roads are wet.
