The controller I got said it was a plug and play but the directions on this says u have to hard wire it it there just a adapter cable I didnt get my truck is a 2005 dodge Dakota

As long as you have a factory installed 7-way on your 2005 Dodge Dakota you would only need the Tekonsha Adapter # 3020-P to install your Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller # 5504. This harness will make the install a plug and play install as one end of the harness plugs into the port under your dash and the other end plugs into the brake controller.
