If you have factory crossbars currently on your 2000 Nissan Xterra, the Curt Basket # C18115-117 will work as long as your crossbars do not exceed 3" wide x 1-5/8" tall. In order to know for sure, I recommend measuring the width and height of your crossbars. Also, you will need to determine if your crossbars are adjustable in order to accommodate the required crossbar spread of 22"-50". The way to do this is to simply measure the space between your crossbars at different adjustable points.

If you find that you do not have the dimensions required on your factory crossbars, the Aluminum Roof Mounted Cargo Basket - 44" Long x 39" Wide x 7" Deep # 288-09200 is a great alternative. This is because the Aluminum Roof Mounted Cargo Basket will accommodate crossbars up to 2" tall x 4-3/4" wide. As far as crossbar spread, your crossbars need to be able to adjust to between 17-3/4" - 24-3/4".
