Question:
Im looking at the 6 inch replacement pads seen in the list of replacement parts for the TH834. What is the tube construction under the pad that keeps these pads from slipping down? The photos for the replacement pads dont show them on the J rack and Im wondering if I should be looking for something different. Thnx

The Replacement 6" Pad for Thule Roof Mounted Kayak Carriers # 853-5540 are designed to be able to slide up and down the arm of the Thule Hull-A-Port Kayak Carrier # TH834. This was designed so that the same rack can be used on different kayaks. Since some kayaks will have a more pronounced v base and depending on the width of the Kayak you may need to move the pad so that it properly sits on the groove for that Kayak.
The adjustability of the pads is covered in the video review that I linked below on the Thule carrier. The pads will slide on over the tube and once installed there is a Velcro flap that will ensure that the pad stays on the carrier.
