Question:

Hello - We have a set of pretty old Thule fixed J style rooftop kayak carriers not sure of the model, and the pads are just about worn out. Each J carrier has 2 pads, one horizontal and one vertical, they look identical and measure approximately 6 X 6.5. It looks like Item # 853-5540 will work as a replacement but I wanted to check with the experts first. Thank you very much

Thanks for your business, and I did check with Thule for you, and went through each of the replacement pads for their J-style kayak carriers, and found the replacement pads are the same part number. Just keep in mind that the pads are different for the upper pad (on the cradle) and for the base.

So the correct replacement pads, if you were looking to replace both the upper (cradle) and lower (base) pads are the following:

- Cradle Pad: Replacement 6" Pad for Thule Roof Mounted Kayak Carriers # 853-5540

- Base Pad: Replacement Base Pad for Thule Kayak Carrier # 8535302
