how wide a I-beam flange will these work on, mine is 4in. wide

Technically, you are only limited by the size of the nut and bolt. A longer bolt used would mean you could go to a larger I-beam. With the included hardware the minimum I-beam width is 2-1/2 inches and the maximum is 4-1/2 inches. I made a video showing this for you.
