Can You Use a Platform Style Bike Rack On a Class I Trailer Hitch

Question:

I have 2 road bikes that I need to transport, weight about 20lbs each. I am looking into getting the 2 bike platform style bike carrier. Will ta class 1 be able to support that kind of bike carrier ?

Yes, you can use a class I hitch with a platform style two bike rack. That said, not all platform style two bike racks are rated for class I hitches. The Swagman Chinook Bike Rack part # S64683 is a great option for a class I rated trailer hitch and it's what I recommend using. It has locks for security of both the bikes/rack and it has an anti-rattle hitch pin for increased stability. It weighs about 50 lbs which will allow you to carry pretty much any bike and still be under the class I capacity rating. The weight capacity of the bikes for this rack is 45 lbs.
