Question:

The Brakemaster 9000 system was working perfectly. However, the pin was accidentally pulled from the breakaway switch. Since then, the brake system will not release in the tow car once applied in the RV. I reed the switch pin, but that made no difference. There may be another problem, but the switch may be our issue? Thanks for your help.

From what you are describing, you have one or two things that could be going on, but odds are it is the switch that is causing the issue.

One way to test this will be to connect the 2 wires in the back of the actual switch. This will complete the circuit, which the pull pin should be doing, and will tell you immediately if it is the issue. If the brakes are now working properly, you will need to replace it with the Replacement Breakaway Switch # RM-650898. The removal of the pull pin can be a little more violent than other times, causing the internal connections to have trouble returning back to their proper configuration. This can then cause the issue you are seeing and it is a lot easier to just replace it.

However, if the issue persists, there is something else going on. A ground issue can also cause something like this to happen and the sudden full power surge and abrupt movement may have shorted or knocked a ground loose. You will need to check each ground source that is directly applicable to the supplemental braking system and replacing or repairing any that have come loose or disconnected.

If neither of these get your BrakeMaster up and running properly, let me know and we can try something else. Again, it is most likely just the switch though.
