Question:
I live in California. I would like to completely bypass not utilize the stock tranny cooler built into the radiator and install an aftermarket cooler. What aftermarket cooler will do the job of cooling the transmission fluid with the stock one disconected?

The best way to pick out a transmission cooler to replace the factory one on your 2006 Hummer H3 would be to measure the area in front of your radiator/AC condenser and pick out the biggest cooler that would fit in that area.
The Derale Cooler # D13504 that you referenced would be an excellent choice for a transmission cooler as long as you have the clearance for it. The dimensions of this cooler are 11 inch wide x 12 inch tall x 7/8 inch deep.
I attached an installation video for this product on a similar GM SUV as yours as well as an FAQ article on coolers for you to check out also.
You may also be interested in purchasing a Derale Snap-In Adapter # D13035 to avoid the hassle of cutting or flaring lines.
