Question:
Hello etrailer Im looking for a trailer hitch step that gives me a 4inch to 6inch rise rather than a to make it easier to reach over my 2021 Tacoma tailgate. Can the step of the Curt Grip Step Trailer Hitch Mounted Step Item # C25KR be mounted upside down on the other side of the flat plate that goes into the receiver to give me a 4inch rise? If not, do you have any other suggestions? I really just need a single step that can take the place of the trailer ball on an adapter with a rise. Thanks for you help! Darrel

I confirmed with the engineers at Curt that even though it is physically doable to mount the step on the Curt Grip Step # C25KR upside down on the mounting bracket in order to get a rise on your 2021 Toyota Tacoma, it has not been tested for that specific application. It is unknown whether that setup will be able to have the same 350 pound weight capacity.
However, for a more economical option that will definitely work, I recommend the Hitch Stair with 2 Steps for 2" Trailer Hitches # RHS2. Even though the hitch stair has 2 different steps, the top steps will give you a step that rises 5-1/4 inches above the hitch receiver. The hitch stair has a 250-pound weight capacity and measures 6-1/2 inches from the center of the furthest shank pin hole to the closest part of the step. This means that your bumper must not exceed 6-1/2 inches from your hitch receiver's pinhole.
As long as you have a hitch that installs close to the bumper like the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C13264, you should have enough space as long as you measure the distance between the center of your hitch's pinhole to the outside of your bumper of your 2021 Toyota Tacoma.
