Recommendation Between 4-Pole and 7-Way Trailer Connector for 2017 Chevy Traverse

For starters, the Draw-Tite # 75528 class III hitch is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Chevy Traverse. The hitch already has a stand-off welded onto it that a trailer connector mounting bracket like # 18144 for a 4 pole or
# PK12711U for a 7-way would attach to.

I'd agree with you leaning toward going with a 7-way like the # 118271. If you also get an adapter like # PK12716, you can also tow trailers that use the 4-pole connector, so you'll be set trailer connector-wise for the vast majority of trailers out there. This option would provide the best future flexibility.

If you'll be towing a trailer with electric brakes, you'll also want to install a brake controller to actuate them. A proportional controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty, part # RED24FR is what I'd recommend. You'll also need a vehicle specific wiring harness, part # RED27FR.

The Tow-Pro Liberty is a remote mount controller, which means you won't have a box bolted to the underside of your dash to bang your knee in to. The controller itself mounts under the dash, out of sight and you control the braking action using the small control knob that can mount in an un-used switch knock out or directly into the dash using a mounting bezel like # 331-TPSI-001.
