Often vehicle wiring colors are consistent to allow color-for-color connection of items such as the Curt Taillight Converter, part # C56175. However, this is not always the case. The best way to conclusively identify the lighting function carried on each wire is to use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993.

I have provided a link to a video showing how to use the circuit tester to determine what lighting function is carried on each wire of the vehicle harness. This process is made easier if you have a helper on hand to activate the lighting functions on the Cube while you apply the circuit tester.

Apply the grounded tester to one of the wires on the Cube taillight harness on the driver-side. Have your helper engage, one at a time, the left turn, taillight and brake. Repeat this process for the other vehicle wires until you have identified the function on each. Now you can use the quick-splice connectors supplied with the Curt harness to connect each wire by function (not by color) to the leads on the vehicle side of the converter module.

Start by attaching the white ground wire with ring terminal to a clean unpainted metal surface on the vehicle behind the left taillight housing (you can use an existing screw to do this or use the self-tapping one provided). Connect the wire with the left turn signal to the yellow wire on the vehicle-side of the converter; the tail light wire connects to the brown wire; the brake light wire connects to the red wire. The green wire is to be run over to the right taillight assembly and connected to the vehicle wire that carries the right turn signal. Once you have made all connections you can mount the converter and re-install the taillight housings.

We recommend using a dielectric grease such as part #11755 on the 4-pole trailer connector to protect the contacts from corrosion.

Please note this converter cannot be used with trailers that use LED-type lights. Also, if you know the current draw from your trailer lights verify that this will not exceed the maximum ratings for the converter, which are 3 amps for the stop/turn lights and 7.5 amps for the taillights. The installation instructions for the Curt harness are included for reference.
