Question:
I have joined the blue wire to the blue wire. The black wire to the red wire with a black stripe. Instructions say to hook the red wire to a light blue with white wire and the white wire to the white wire. I dont have wires of those colors left in the Silverado wiring harness. I have an orange wire which isnt to be used, a kind of greenish colored wire with a white stripe and a tanish colored wire.

Your truck does seem to have non-standard brake controller wiring under the dash for a 2011 Chevy Silverado based on our experiences. So what you are going to need to do is use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test for voltage when the brakes are applied of the wires remaining and then wire that to red wire of the brake controller.
Now to determine where to run the white wire connect one end of the tester to the black and red wire and then connect other end to remaining wires. Whichever lights up the tester is the ground and the one to wire the white wire of the controller to.
