Question:

I have a 2017 F150 with a 3.5L engine. I just purchased a camper with the dry weight of 5085 lbs. I am concerned about the transmission and whether or not install an auxiliary cooler. what is your opinion and what is the best cooler to purchase?

I highly recommend an auxiliary oil cooler for vehicles that will frequently tow, especially during the hot summer months. The cooler will extend the life of your transmission and allow it to run at its peak performance. If the transmission overheats it will begin to slip and damaged the clutches and plates inside the transmission leading to expensive repairs.

For your 2017 Ford F-150 I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13502. This will work with your 3.5L as well as the 2.7L and 5.0L engines, but it should not be used on any engine that is paired to the 10R80 10-speed transmission. There are no transmission coolers that should be paired to that transmission.
