Troubleshooting Flow Max RV Water Pump that Won't Prime

Question:

installed my new flowmax 12v pump and cant get it to prime. rechecked the fittings and didnt find any thing loose. opened the hot water faucet to let air out but only air comes out. Tried it without opening faucet and still doesnt prime.

And you can hear it attempt to pump water? Here's what Flow Max states to check if their pumps won't prime:

Check if the strainer is clogged with debris.
Check if there is water in the tank or whether air has collected in the hot water heater.
Check if the inlet tubing/plumbing is sucking air at plumbing connections - vacuum leak?
Is the inlet/outlet plumbing severely restricted or kinked?
Check proper voltage with the pump operating: + or - 10%
Check for debris in the pump inlet/outlet valves or if there are swollen or dry valves.
Check pump housing for cracks or loose drive assembly screws.
