Base Plate Fit on 1988 Jeep YJ With Factory Bumper

Question:
Your website states this DM9518112 will not fit a 1988 Jeep YJ with a factory steel u-channel bumper. Many other sites indicate it will, as it is the same bumper assembly as the earlier CJ’s. Why does it indicate it will not fit an ‘88 YJ?

The reason we do not have those base plates as a fit for a 1988 Jeep YJ with a factory bumper is simply due to the fact the manufacturer does not list that vehicle as a fit for these base plates. We have to go by the fitment outlined via the manufacturer in order to ensure the safest possible towing experience.
That said, we do have base plates that I confirmed with the manufacturer fit a 1988 Jeep YJ, which are from Roadmaster:
- Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 1409-1
