Question:

I have a 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon back hatchstyle door, not a real trunk. I would really like to understand the difference between the Thule OutWay Trunk Bike Rack for 3 Bikes - Adjustable Arms Item # TH56BV and the Thule Gateway Pro 3 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms Item # TH78VR. Why the Outway is so much more expensive, what is the difference. They appear very similiar.

The Thule Outway part # TH56BV is considered the premium Thule trunk mounted bike rack that's loaded with features that allows it to be easier to use and also more secure whereas the Gateway Pro 3 part # TH78VR is still a great trunk rack but it's features are scaled back a bit.

The biggest advantage the Outway has is an easier strap setup that uses 4 rubber coated steel straps instead of the 6 fabric straps of the Gateway. Obviously steel is harder to cut than fabric so that provides a bit of additional security and since there are two fewer straps the install is a little quicker as well. Also the Gateway does not come with locks like the Outway does for both the rack and the bikes.
