Question:
I need a class 2 hitch for my new Honda. It has a motion detector sensor that raises the liftgate by putting your foot under the sensor area. Regarding Part #36597: what has to be done to the sensor in order to make it still function once the hitch 36597 is installed? I dont need a class 3 hitch since the towing maximum for this Honda is 1500#

The Draw-Tite # 36597 Class I hitch will only hinder the sensors in the center of the bumper, where the receiver tube will block them. If you wave your foot to the left or right of the receiver tube by a foot or so, the sensors will pick up the movement there.
Honda does offer a sensor relocation bracket as part # 08U59-TLA-100A which will allow the sensors full operation.
Instead of the Class I # 36597, I'd recommend going with the # 76128 Class III hitch instead. The 2 inch receiver size is more common, which means you'll have a much better selection of hitch mounted accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers.
I've linked to install videos which you might find helpful.
