Should 16000lb or 20000lb Reese Goose Box Be Used On Trailer With 15940lb GVWR?

Question:

I have a 5th wheel that I would like to add a Reese Goosebox to. The GVWR of the trailer is 18,940 pounds. Even though the 16,000 pound hitch is technically rated more than that, would you recommend upgrading to the 20,000 pound since it is so close?

As long as your trailer has a Lippert 1621/1621 HD pin box I would go with the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter - Lippert 1621 - 20,000 lbs # RP85FR since your trailer has a GVWR just under 20,000 lbs. You will not have any issues even though it is close to the rating of the pin box.
