The Longview custom towing mirrors # LVT-2600 should provide you with a much better field of vision when installed. The Glass parts of these mirrors is 5-1/2 inches wide according to my contact at Longview. Since there is a gap between the factory mirror housing and the towing mirror glass, the extension will be even further than that 5-1/2 inches overall. When placed at the right angle for you, you should be able to get a much better view of what is going on behind you.
