Tow Lights Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 1999 Jeep Wrangler
Updated 03/20/2013 | Published 03/18/2013 >
Question:
i have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 and have towed my 99 Jeep using the magnetic tow lights and really dont like them. Is there a kit or anything else that I can use to avoid using the magnetic light kit, and maybe just go from rear of truck to the jeep. The magnetic tow lights I have dont work with my trucks lighting, they only work with the daytime running lights. Any suggestions?

There are several different tow light options available for your 1999 Jeep Wrangler. I have attached a link to all of the tow light kits that will work with your Jeep.
The kit that I recommend is the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit, # HM56202. This harness simply plugs into the factory tail light harness and does not require you to splice or cut into your vehicle wiring to install. This kit has a basic 4-way flat connector to connect to your truck and uses your Jeep tail lights rather than separate lights.
To ensure that this light kit will work with the connector on your truck, I would recommend using a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, to test the pins on your trucks trailer connector. I have attached a video of my coworker testing a 4-pin trailer connector for you to check out.
I have also attached a link to the installation instructions for this kit as well for you to check out.
