Does Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring for VW Tiguan 2018 have to Run Straight to Battery

Updated 04/15/2021 | Published 04/14/2021

Question:

Hi there, for the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring harness # C56403, I want to install on my VW Tiguan 2018 R-Line, Do I absolutely have to go straight to the battery or could I connect to a spare 15 amp fuse in the drivers side fuse panel using a fuse tap with fuse holder? Obviously I would use a spare fuse socket not currently in use and that provides always on power even when ignition is off. It’s much easier to work from the inside of the vehicle to run a wire under the plastic moulding than it is to work on the underside of the vehicle. Personally I don’t see the difference of going straight to the battery or connecting to the fuse box using a fuse tap. Both receive the same power as the fuse box is wired directly to the battery and the tap would be protected by its own fuse. Thank you

We can't stop you from using the fuse panel as the power source for install of Curt harness part # C56403 but in order for the circuit protection of the harness to totally isolate itself from the vehicle wiring to prevent a short from damaging the vehicle wiring it has to go straight to the battery.
