Im trying to install the C13550 hitch on my 2005 ford explorer 4 door 4x4 and it is too narrow to fit over the OEM hitch mounting.

I am sorry to hear you are having an issue getting the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13550 to fit over the OEM hitch on your 2005 Ford Explorer.
This is not all that uncommon, as due to the size and shape of hitches they have been known to flex slightly during shipping causing fitment issues like you mentioned, but don't worry, it is pretty straight forward to get it fitting correctly.
You will want to straighten out the receiver, but the method you choose is based on the tools and equipment you have on hand. I went ahead and included a link to a helpful article that goes over straightening hitches for you to take a look at.
