When installing the Deka Battery Isolator - 120 Amp # DW08771 you actually do not tap into the ignition systems. Instead you will run the wire from the alternator to the A post on the Isolator, then run a wire from the number 1 post of the isolator to your starting battery, and another wire from the number two post of the isolator to the secondary battery. Since the alternator will only have power with the vehicle running, it is what keeps you from needing to tap into the ignition system.

This will allow you to use your secondary battery with the vehicle turned off without having to worry about it draining your starting battery.
