Does Rhino Rack Roof Rack for 2020 Subaru Ascent Have Capacity for Roof Tent

Hello, I read your expert advise link recommending the rhino cross bars for Subaru Ascent. It appears the capacity is 165LBS, however, the tent weight is 160LBS and with people in it easily reaching 600LBS. Is that going to be a problem? Thank you.

This is a really good question about roof rack weight capacity like for the Rhino Rack part numbers # RRVA137B-2 and # RRSX100 which fits your 2020 Subaru Ascent.

So this rack has a dynamic weight capacity of 165 lbs which means 165 lbs loaded on the rack while the vehicle is in motion on the highway where it will experience bumps and g-outs due to normal use that would multiply the weight of the cargo on the bars.

So a static weight capacity would be much higher since the vehicle wouldn't be moving. Static weight capacities are not available but we've found is that most roof rack tents will have a dynamic weight capacity minimum that allows the tent full weight capacity. Like for example the Yakima SkyRise part # Y07436 has a 400 lb capacity and needs to be installed on a roof rack with a dynamic weight capacity of at least 165 lbs to get full capacity.
