Question:
I just installed a tekonsha 90885 using a tekonsha 3036p wiring harness. It appears that the brake controller is powered on continuously even with the truck turned off. Is this normal, and will it cause any issues such as battery drain?

Expert Reply:
No worries, it's completely normal.
After 15 minutes or so, the controller will go into a sleep mode at which time the voltage draw is so negligible that you'd need to leave the vehicle sit for several months before you'd need to worry about the vehicle's battery draining.
This is done as a safety measure, so you don't turn off the controller and forget to turn it back on before towing. If the vehicle will be left unattended for several months, you can unplug the 3036-P harness (which we offer as part # 22292) from the controller, but don't forget to plug it back in next time you use the vehicle.
