I recommend the Curt Class II Receiver Hitch # C12051. This is a custom fit 1-1/14" hitch for your LTZ model 2008 Chevrolet Malibu.
If you need a wiring harness I suggest # 46255.
We have actually have video that covers your specific make/model and year vehicle; I have attached a link below. It is identified in this video that this hitch may set back slightly more than typical, and may require an extension for use with some accessories such as a bike rack. There are receiver adapters available, such as the # C45785. This adaptor will also allow you to change from a 1-1/4 to 2" spec if needed.
