Hitch That Has Rating As High As Factory Hitch 2005 Nissan Xterra
Updated 01/18/2021 | Published 01/17/2021 >
Question:
My 05 Xterra owners manual states the Tongue Weight is 500lbs. Why do all the hitch manufacturers only provide 350lb and 400lb TW for Nissan Xterras. I need a hitch with a 500lb TW.

Expert Reply:
The rating of aftermarket manufacturers could be lower than a factory option for a couple of reasons. This could be the size and design of the hitch to accommodate the frame of the vehicle, spare tire location, or factory mounting points. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Item # 13514 is a great option for an aftermarket hitch for the 2005 Nissan Xterra.
With use of Weight Distribution, the Curt hitch rating is increased to 600 pounds tongue weight, and 6,000 pounds for gross tow weight.
