I read you cant use the sidewinder extender on a Q24 hitch . Is that true ? And why ?

Yes. The Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 24,000 lbs # C16245 and other Curt Q series 5th wheel hitches have a 360 degree axial bearing so it won't allow the pivot point of the Sidewinder pin box to be the only moving component. With another moving part, the Sidewinder will not work as it needs to being firm at the kingpin and only rotate at the turret of the pin box.
If you want a similar hitch that will work with a Sidewinder, I recommend the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30928 with Wedge # RP44FR. This setup will work with the Reese Sidewinders and not allow the king pin to rotate inside the hitch.
