Question:

Hello! I’m looking for a full sized spare rack for my 2018 Audi Q5. I see a few of your racks that may be used. My concern is my tailgate swings ‘up’ and I’m not sure it would clear the rack and spare. Any help would be appreciated. It’s been hard finding something that will work. Not even Audi doesn’t seem to be helpful. I do a lot desert driving. Don’t want to just have one of those donut spares in the middle of Death Valley. Thanks

I recommend the Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack System which will use Thule WingBar Evo 47" Aluminum Crossbars # TH711220, Thule Evo Flush Rail Feet # TH710601, and Custom Fit Kit # TH186045. This is a great light weight system that offers a 165lb weight capacity and is confirmed to fit your Audi Q5. I recommend adding the Thule One Key Lock Cores # TH450400 to secure the roof rack to your vehicle. I included a video of the Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack System for you to take a look at.

To mount the spare tire carrier I recommend the Yakima OffGrid Roof Cargo Basket # Y07138 which is 44" long x 40" wide x 7" tall with a 165lb weight capacity and will allow you to use the Yakima Spare Tire Carrier # Y07076 to mount your full size spare tire.

I included a video of the Thule Canyon XT # TH859XT being installed on a Audi Q5 since it is actually 5" longer than the Yakima Cargo Basket, and fit with out interfering with the tailgate. The reason I recommend the Yakima Cargo Basket is it offers a spare tire carrier option, where the Thule Canyon does not.
