Question:

My vehicle is a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 WT, Regular Cab, Long Box. I would rather not use my ignition key for the Bolt Locking Tailgate Handle #BL5922987. This way, if I have to take my vehicle in for servicing or some such situation where I have to relinquish my ignition key, I wont risk having anything in the truck bed be easily accessed. Is using a different key an option? If so, what sort of key would work with this lock? Is it specifically for ignition keys? I still have keys from long since retired various Chevy vehicles. Would they possibly work?

We have a locking tailgate for your 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the part # PAL1310 that comes with two unique keys like what you are looking for. This way you could prevent someone with your ignition key from being able to access your tailgate.
