Depending on how your Topkick is equipped, you may need up to 3 items to install a brake controller.
If the vehicle does not already have a trailer wiring harness you will first need to install a 4-way wiring harness. Since you seem to have a heavy-duty trailer, we recommend a heavy-duty powered converter, # 119290KIT, rated for 15.9 amps.
Next you will need a 4 and 6 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC6. I have included a link to the installation details for this item. This will provide a required 6-way trailer connector and related hardware for installing a brake controller.
For the brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha P2, part # 90885, as it is easy to use and has capacity for up to 8 separate brake assemblies. Installation details are also linked.
If your vehicle already has a 6-way trailer connector to match the 6-way connector on the trailer, you will just need installation kit # 5506 along with the brake controller. The brake controller output wire (blue) should be connected to the brake output pin on the 6-way.
If your vehicle has different trailer connections then please let us know specifics and we will provide the appropriate recommendations.
