Do you have to have a bed liner to connect to the bed properly?

No. You can use the Bestop EZ Fold # B1621901 with or without a bedliner installed on your 2021 Chevy Colorado. This tonneau cover clamps on to your bed rails and installs in less than 15 minutes, so it's a great option if you're looking for something that can be put on and taken off easily.
