Question:

If I have the trailer vin # can I order a replacement key to fit existing lock. I am looking to purchase the trailer and seller has lost original keys. Lock is in the locked position currently.

Yakima does not keep record of the lock cores for the VIN of their trailers but we do have a way that can help. You'll have to hire a locksmith to unlock the cores.

From there you have a couple options. The first is to use the Replacement Control Key for Yakima Same Key System # Y8007835 to remove the core and look for the core number; you can then order replacement keys. For example if your lock core had "A132" on it you would need Replacement Key for Yakima Racks and Carriers - A132 # Y8772-A132.

The other option is to have the locksmith unlock the cores and then simply replace them with Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores # Y07202, which comes with two lock cores, two keys and a control key to remove your old cores.
