On my 2011 ram 2500 my brake controller only engages when I use it manually and not when I press the

The fact that your trailer brakes only engage when you use the manual override sounds like you have an issue with the brake light power on the red wire going into your brake controller. I recommend using the circuit tester # PTW2993 to check the red wire making sure you have braking signal getting to the controller when you press the pedal.
