Question:

I have a couple of questions: 1. How do I know if I have the factory tow package on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited note: it does not currently have a hitch receiver installed? 2. My trailer has a 5-pole wiring harness. Do you have a plug-n-play wiring harness for a 5-pole trailer? Or, do I have to install a 4-pole and then install a 5-pole adapter? Thank you!

My advise is based on the assumption that your trailer with a 5-wire connector is a boat trailer and the extra wire is blue and locks out the trailer brakes when you are in reverse.

The easiest way to determine if your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has factory tow set up is to have the dealership run the VIN for you and let you know how it was equipped. The tow package would have at least included the tow hitch and tow wiring. It seems unlikely that someone took the hitch off of your Jeep.

I recommend the Curt # C55124 wiring harness, you will find that it installs a standard 4 pole wiring harness in a very short time. I have attached a link to this harness below. I have also attached a video demonstration of the installation.

I would then install the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter Item # 20036. This has a 5 wire connector on one end to connect to your trailer and the other end has a standard 4 pole connector to your Jeep, and a blue wire that you will connect to your backup light circuit. I have attached a video link about this adapter. This is the easiest way to add a 5-way to your Jeep.
