I can agree with you that running the power wire can be time consuming. It does make it easier if you can get the back of the vehicle on ramps. The hardest part is routing the power wire over the rear axle and staying away from anything hot or moving. Once you get past the axle you can run the wire along some factory hard lines or in between a plastic panel and the body to the front. All of the wiring kits for the 2016 Subaru Impreza require a power wire be ran to the battery.

The power wire on the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # 118581 is essential because it activates the control module to get the signals back to the trailer from the vehicle. The trailer lights draw power from the battery power wire and not the vehicle lights their selves so it doesn't overload the vehicles wiring system. The power wire is also fuse protected so if by chance there is a short in the trailer wiring it will not back feed to the vehicle wiring causing a lot of damage that could have been prevented. The converter box protects the vehicle wiring from that back feed so if there is a wiring issue the fuse will protect the power wire to the battery and the converter box protects the vehicles factory wiring by cutting off the connection.
