For your 2017 Honda CR-V you can definitely use a 2" trailer hitch receiver and this is the route I recommend because it will give you much better options for a bike rack to carry your Electra Townie 7D EQ with a step-through frame and fenders. The best hitch for your '17 CR-V is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76128 because it has the best ground clearance, which is important since you will be using the hitch for a bike rack.

With a larger hitch, your options for a great bike rack for your Electra Townie 7D EQ open up. Since this rack has fenders you will need a frame-mounted rack, and for that I recommend the the Saris Freedom # SA4412B.

At less than 30 lbs it is extremely lightweight which makes it easy to use, it has the ability to tilt and fold, and also has a shank that rises 8 inches for optimal ground clearance to help ensure it doesn't touch the ground.
