Is Battery Isolator Needed When Using 7-Way Connected to Trailer Battery

Question:

I have a converted military trailer that I use to haul gear on camping and hunting trips. Id like to add a battery in a portable enclosed setup that would have a 12v lighter socket and a couple USB charging ports for charging phones, lights, GPS etc while in the field. Ideally, Id like to be able to use the 12v pin on my 7 pin connector from truck while driving to help maintain this batterys charge. Will I need a battery isolator to protect the trucks battery while camped and the truck isnt running for a few days at a time? Or is it easier to just unplug the trailer while camped?

That's a good question, and you can certainly just unplug the trailer if you like when you are camped. If you don't want to have to deal with that (along with all the other stuff to get set up and remember when you reach your destination), you can leave the trailer plugged in but will need an isolator, the Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201.

This is the route I recommend because without the isolator, if you don't unplug the connector it will drain your battery. So having the peace of mind of knowing your truck is going to start is pretty well worth it.
